MMA Odds

MMA (mixed martial arts) is a global sport with multiple leagues, including the UFC.

MMA is a full-contact sport that incorporates plenty of different fighting styles from different cultures such as jiu-jitsu, judo, Muay Thai, and more.

Below is a guide for everything you need to know about the sport and MMA betting.

What is MMA?

From the global UFC and PFL, to Poland’s KSW, Asia’s ONE Championship, and the United States’ MVP (Most Valuable Promotions), there are plenty of different leagues available to bet on at bet365.

Other than the ONE Championship, most bouts across these leagues will take place during the weekend, typically on Saturday night.

MMA Format

Most MMA leagues follow a year-round calendar with no real offseasons, other than around the
holidays for the UFC.

Only the PFL follows a traditional season like the NBA, NFL, etc. It even has their own version of the playoffs and a championship.

MMA fights are mono y mono and typically last for three or five rounds, with each round lasting five minutes. Non-title bouts are usually three rounds, while championship and main-event fights are five rounds. A knockout ends the fight regardless of round.

How Athletes Become Professional MMA Fighters

Becoming a professional MMA fighter is extremely difficult, but it can be done.

Typically, 4-5 years of consistent training is needed in which athletes specialize in multiple disciplines (striking, grappling, wrestling). Then, 10+ amateur level fights are needed before transitioning to professional fights.

Where to Watch MMA Events

For the UFC, Paramount+ is the exclusive broadcast partner, thus all bouts are streamed on the platform. Paramount+ also carries a Spanish broadcast for most fights. PFL fights are streamed on ESPN+ with select bouts being broadcast on ESPN2. MVP events are primarily streamed across ESPN+ and DAZN, while major events, such as Jake Paul’s recent fight, stream globally on Netflix.

You can watch the ONE Championship on Amazon Prime Video.

MMA Locations

MMA is a global sport as leagues host fights in several parts of the world.

The UFC’s home base is in Las Vegas, though they regularly host fights across other cities in the U.S. and internationally, including Sydney, London, Mexico City, and more.

The PFL typically fights in the U.S., including Orlando, Atlanta, and Chicago, and they have expanded internationally to Riyadh, Dubai, and various European cities. MVP holds their events mostly in the U.S., although the Paul vs. Fury fight was held in Saudi Arabia, and most of Amanda Serrano’s fights are in Puerto Rico.

The ONE Championship holds fights primarily in Asia, with its home base being in Bangkok, but they have also expanded to the U.S., including to Denver.

History of MMA & All-Time Records

Mixed Martial Arts dates back all the way to ancient Greek times (around 650 BC) before eventually turning into 20th-century Brazilian vale tudo.

The Greeks combined boxing and wrestling techniques to create Pankration, a brutal Olympic sport.

The first UFC fight was held in 1993 in Denver, CO, where the new company hoped to pit different fighting styles (boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling) against each other

Betting Strategies for MMA

Here are some common strategies to consider if you decide to bet on an MMA fight.

Understanding Betting Markets

Make sure you understand what you are betting on before placing a bet. bet365 offers a wide range of betting options, knowing the rules before you play is crucial.

Fighter Research

Before placing a bet, do your research. Is a certain athlete in good fighting form recently? Are there any injuries? When was the last time the athlete fought? All of these questions should be answered before placing a bet.

Managing Your Budget

Think about how much money you spend gambling. View gambling as a source of entertainment, not a form of income. Do not gamble more than you are comfortable losing.

Responsible Gambling on MMA Events
