Devils edge Lightning in Tampa

A Steven Stamkos led rally fell just short for the Tampa Bay Lightning as they lost 5-4 at home to the New Jersey Devils.
Stamkos is now tied for the NHL lead in goals with Phil Kessel of the Maple Leafs and Milan Michalek of the Senators after recording his 17th and 18th of the year in the third period.
Playing without the injured Martin St. Louis, hit by a puck in practice by Dominic Moore, Stamkos nevertheless lit the lamp midway through the third on the power play assisted by Moore and Vincent Lecavalier and then added his second and Tampa Bay's fourth with under a minute to go in regulation.
However the Lightning could not overcome a three-goal outburst by the Devils in the second. Zach Parise had a goal and two assists to lead the way for New Jersey after the teams had finished tied at two apiece after the first period.
Petr Sykoa and Dainius Zubrus gave the Devils an early lead only for Steve Downie and Blair Jones 80 seconds apart to rally the Lightning.
Tampa Bay are 601.00 to lift the Stanley Cup, while New Jersey are 91.00 to win the NHL Atlantic Division.
