Rajon Rondo dropped in a game-high 44 points, but couldn't drag the Boston Celtics to victory as the Miami Heat won Game 2 115-111.
The former Kentucky star was 16-of-24 with 10 assists and eight rebounds in a fine all-around performance, but for once Kevin Garnett couldn't match the play of his point guard adding 18 more on 6-of-18 shooting. Mario Chalmers instead was the difference in the ball game hitting 8-of-16 for 21 points to compliment the 34 of LeBron James and 23 of Dwyane Wade.
Udonis Haslem also came off the bench for the Heat to add a double-double as for the first time since Chris Bosh was injured players other than James and Wade stepped up. The result was a two games to nothing lead in the Eastern Conference Final as the two teams battle to face the San Antonio Spurs or Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals.
Also up two games to nothing and riding a 20-game winning streak are the Spurs who play at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City on Thursday evening. Like the Heat, the Thunder's offense revolves around three key players, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden, and that by itself is not enough to defeat the depth that the Spurs can bring to the court.
The Celtics are now 1.71 to win the series, while the Heat are 2.20 to reach the NBA final.
The NBA Draft Lottery was held Wednesday and the New Orleans Hornets jumped up to the top spot ahead of the Charlotte Bobcats. Anthony Davis of Kentucky is the consensus top pick in the draft and there was good news for the Golden State Warriors who stayed seventh in the draft order and did not have to give up their selection to the Utah Jazz to complete a previous trade.
