Mavericks close in on title
June 12, 2011 10:15:10 UK
The Dallas Mavericks are one win away from their first NBA Championship after a 112-103 victory over the Miami Heat.
Dirk Nowitzki had a game-high 29 points and Jason Terry an impressive 8-for-12 from the field including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc as the Mavericks hit 13 three point shots.
Jason Kidd bounced back from a poor statistical performance in game four, although his defense is a crucial and generally under appreciated part of his game, to add 13 points, six assists and also match Terry with 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
The Mavericks are 1.01 to win the match while Miami are 15.00.
All five Dallas starters scored at least eight points and combined with Terry's 21 from the bench provided the balanced attack that the Mavericks needed to offset Miami's Big Three.
Dwyane Wade had 23 points and eight assists, LeBron James a triple double with 17 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds and Chris Bosh 19 points and 10 rebounds, but tellingly James scored only two points in the fourth quarter.
This disappearing act has the potential to tarnish the legacy of the superstar for years unless he is able to step up in game six of the finals.
The Heat's bench contributed 40 points on the night, highlighted by Mario Chalmers' 15 and 10 from Udonis Haslem, however this only emphasised the poor play of starters Joel Anthony and Mike Bibby who chipped in with two each.
