Andy Murray remains on course to win the Shanghai Masters for a third time after coming through a tough three-set encounter with Radek Stepanek.
The 25-year-old US Open champion had to come from a set down before beating the Czech Republic star 4-6 6-2 6-3 in a tight quarter-final clash. He will face Roger Federer for a place in the final.
Murray said afterwards: "He's a very tricky guy to play against, he played a lot of the match on his terms. I managed to raise my level. It could have gone either way."

I managed to raise my level but it could have gone either way.

Meanwhile, in the Japan Open in Osaka, Heather Watson advanced to the semi-finals by beating Pauline Parmentier of France. The British number two and world number 71 won a two-hour contest 7-5 6-3 and is now guaranteed to move into the top 60.
The 20-year-old faces Japan's Misaki Doe in the semi-finals and is now 4.50 to win the tournament.
However, the 18-year-old British number one Laura Robson failed to join Watson in the last four as she slumped to a 6-3 3-6 7-6 defeat to Chang Kai-chen of Taipei.
It was a surprising loss for Robson, who is currently ranked 56 in the world as Chang is the world number 134.
