Rafael Nadal thought he played "exceptionally well" as he thrashed defending champion David Ferrer 6-0 6-2 to win the Mexican Open.
The second seed produced his best performance since returning from his seven-month injury lay-off to beat the world number four. The victory has left Nadal at 1.57 to win the French Open yet again this year and at 5.00 to emerge victorious at Wimbledon.
Nadal has now won 12 of his 13 matches since returning to action last month after recovering from a left knee injury.

My knee responded well this week and I really hope it will continue this way.

He said after his success: "This was a great week for me and today I played exceptionally well, I dominated the game against the world No. 4 and couldn't be happier, especially when I think where I am coming from.
"Perhaps the conditions were in my favour but I feel it was maybe one of the best matches of my career."
Nadal never looked back after winning the first eight games. He broke Ferrer five times as he secured victory in just 65 minutes. In 21 encounters between the two Spaniards, Nadal has now won 17 of them.
Nadal will play an exhibition match against Juan Martin del Potro on Monday before taking part in the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of the year in Indian Wells.
"It's a tournament that I love and one of the best events in the year," Nadal said of Indian Wells. "My knee responded well this week and I really hope it will continue this way."
