Meehan hopeful rather than confident

Brian Meehan sends three horses to the races today hoping for the best rather than bubbling with confidence.
The Newmarket trainer has enjoyed a good season in the indifferent weather and is looking for some decent performances from his trio.
Ben Croy (Brighton 4.45) shaped with some promise over the course and distance a week ago which Meehan admits was a vast improvement on two earlier performances this year.
He said: "We are entitled to hope for a further step forward in what is a soft handicap so a small each way investment may prove worthwhile."
Ben Croy is 26.00 to win the 4.45 at Brighton, with Wind Star 6.50 and Renegotiate 3.00.
Supernova Heights (Newbury 7.25) is a half sister to half a dozen winners and the trainer said: "She has shaped nicely and we expect a promising performance."
Junior Diary (Newbury 8.35) has run three times and has been handed a mark of 73 and the trainer added: "She is facing some last time winners and will not find this easy. She has place chances."
Meehan is a man one can trust when assessing his horses as he showed again last night declaring before Thirsk's 7.20 that Miss Complex was a major contender and she duly obliged at 7/4.
