Buick hopeful of Rocky Ground success
July 28, 2012 09:21:25 UK
Despite having never ridden the Roger Varian-trained horse before, William Buick sees his most likely winner of the day as Rocky Ground at Newmarket.
Although Neil Callan rode him on his only start at Yarmouth late last month, Buick explained he got a good look at him for most of the race until he quickened clear from a furlong out beating him and A Certain Romance by four lengths.
Said Buick: "There was nothing wrong with that form, either, because my colt won his next start at Doncaster and although there are only five against us on Saturday it is an extremely tricky race to weigh up as three of them won on their only starts and the other two are also winners.
"Ollie Olga of Mick Channon's might be the biggest problem but I'm very hopeful of Rocky Ground."
Rocky Ground is 1.72 to win the race while Ollie Olga is at 13.00.
He's on Bright Strike at 4.50 for his boss John Gosden in the first at declaring: "I don't have a great deal to do with the youngsters at this time of the season and I'm going with the boss's decision to put me on him instead of Hording who was third on debut.
In the ten furlong handicap he claims to have "a realistic chance of hitting the target "on Unex El Greco, explaining: "He now seems to have found a trip that suits him over a mile and a quarter and the track worked for him too last time out and he's off the same mark."
Jeremy Noseda has booked Buick for Instance in the but the horse has been off since mid-May when she failed to get into the six furlong handicap.
He said: "I'm pretty sure that seven is a better trip for her because she impressed me when we won over it on the July course a year ago. She felt really good beating a decent field by nearly three lengths and has a smart turn of foot when she's on her game."
He hopes to see Peter Chapple-Hyam's Sammindar come back to form in the now the surface is quickening up and hopes that Devidas keeps things going in the .
Of Rayvin Black he said: "We should have definite chances because this extra furlong at a mile and five should bring out his best."
