Buick and Gosden triumph again
July 30, 2012 09:33:16 UK
It may - until the recent burst of finer weather - have been one of the worst summers in history, but don't tell top combination Will Buick and John Gosden.
The pair have carried most before them in an astounding summer of success and it was business as usual again yesterday as Elusive Kate made all to win the Group One Prix Rothschild at Deauville.
Narrowly beaten in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket, Elusive Kate won twice on the Normandy course last year.
Buick yesterday dictated a steady pace and was never really challenged until the final furlong, when Andre Fabre's Golden Lilac was released for her run, but Elusive Kate already had the prize in the bag.
The Buick and Gosden combination have already combined for other Group One victories this year with Great Heavens (Irish Oaks), Izzi Top (Pretty Polly Stakes), Fallen For You (Coronation Stakes) and Nathaniel (Eclipse).
Golden Lilac, considered by Fabre as the best filly he has handled, was a bitter disappointment in the Falmouth and looked more like her old self in finishing a length and a quarter behind.
Meanwhile, Cai Shen is 7.00 to win the bet365.com Stakes while Danadana is at 7.00 and Las Verglas Star is at 8.00.
