World number one Roger Federer began his quest for Olympic glory with a hard fought 6-3 5-7 6-3 win over Alejandro Falla at Wimbledon.
Roger Federer booked his place in the second round. The mecurial Swiss master was pushed all the way by the Columbian, who after losing the first set comfortably, miraculously saved four match points to take the second after a mix of good play and a lack of concentration from Federer led to some uncharacteristic mistakes.

A visibly riled Federer began the third and deciding set in a determined mood and he quickly took a break.
Falla was not finished there however, and much to the surprise and delight of the healthy centre court crowd he hit back to claim a break of his own and level the score at 2-2.
This though was the last of Falla's resistance, and Federer raced through the set to claim victory and book his place in the second round.
Federer is rated as 2.10 to win the gold medal, with great rival Novak Djokovic 2.75.
