Rory McIlroy is hopeful that his recent poor run can come to an end at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational this week, after showing encouraging signs in practice.
By his own high standards McIlroy has struggled over the last two months, missing the cut in three of five tournaments and failing to make an impact at the US Open and Open Championship.

I'm working on some really good things and I've seen some good signs in practice.

The 23-year-old has also slipped to number three in the world after being overtaken in the rankings by a resurgent Tiger Woods.
But McIlroy revealed that he has been working hard in practice to iron out any faults in his swing and is looking forward to taking on the world's best players at Firestone in Akron, Ohio, this week.
He said: "I haven't played great, but I'm working on some really good things and I've seen some good signs in practice.
"It's about taking it from practice on to the course, that's the difficult part. The more I play and the more holes I get and the more tournaments I play in, hopefully it'll just keep coming along."
McIlroy, Woods, Lee Westwood and world number one Luke Donald will head an all-star cast at this week's event - a tournament which Woods has won on no less than seven occasions.
Woods is 6.00 to make it eight this weekend, with McIlroy 23.00 and Donald 15.00.
