Joe Hart said the Manchester City players should take the blame for their defensive inadequacies in the closing stages of the 3-2 defeat at Real Madrid.
Joe Hart made a string of fine saves against Real.Despite being outplayed by the Spanish champions for long periods, City led 2-1 at the Bernabeu in the Champions League encounter with only five minutes left, only to concede two late goals - scored by Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Hart had made several superb saves during the match but was also beaten by Marcelo's strike while Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov scored the goals for Roberto Mancini's side.
The result leaves City at 10001.00 to win the Champions League this season while Real can be backed at 101.00 to clinch European club football's most prestigious trophy.
Distraught City goalkeeper Hart said after the match: "You can't go 2-1 up with five minutes to go and lose the game. Who else can we blame? We can only blame ourselves.
"We dug deep, got a lead twice and we lost it, so we can only blame ourselves. It's hard to come off the field after losing 3-2 and be positive. I'm really sorry.
"We're not a team that should come here and pat ourselves on the back for doing well. We're a team that gets results."
City will hope to bounce back in the Premier League against Arsenal this weekend. It is a match they are 8.00 to win 2-1 while a 1-0 victory for the Gunners is available at 15.00.
