Brazilian side Flamengo have announced that they have failed in a bid to sign AC Milan's former Manchester City striker Robinho.
The 28-year-old Brazilian had been expected to leave the San Siro next month but Flamengo insist they will not be trying to resurrect a deal.
The club believes it is appropriate to abandon the deal and step aside.Flamengo club statement
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani was in Rio earlier this week to negotiate a potential transfer for Robinho but the striker now looks set to stay in Italy. Flamengo were keen to take Robinho back to Brazil, but their offer of six million euros was not enough and Galliani returned to Milan without a deal being agreed.
A statement on Flamengo's official website read: "Flamengo directors Wallim Vasconcellos and Flavio Godinho met on Monday afternoon with Mr Adriano Galliani in an attempt to bring Robinho to the club.
"However, because of the amount requested by Milan, the club believes it is appropriate to abandon the deal and step aside."
AC Milan can be backed at 1213.00 to win the Coppa Italia this season and are 1213.00 to clinch the Champions League.
Robinho, who found the net 14 times in 41 Premier League appearances for Manchester City, has scored 22 goals in 73 Serie A matches for the Rossoneri.
