Nemanja Vidic is facing another eight weeks on the sidelines.Manchester United have been hit by the news captain Nemanja Vidic is facing an eight-week absence after undergoing knee surgery.
The influential Serbian defender only returned to action for the Red Devils at the start of this season having been ruled out since December when he suffered a serious cruciate knee ligament injury in a Champions League clash against Basle in Switzerland.
Vidic was then missing from Sunday's 2-1 win at Liverpool with boss Sir Alex Ferguson suggesting it was merely a precautionary measure because he was complaining of tightness in the joint.
However, on further examination a small problem was detected which required immediate surgery and will sideline Vidic for around two months.

Manchester United statement
"Nemanja Vidic has had a meniscus operation on his right knee and will be out for around eight weeks," a statement on the Manchester United website read.
"Sir Alex, as a precautionary measure, rested Vidic at the weekend, after he complained of tightness in his knee, however, further medical investigation revealed the underlying problem.
"The central defender was operated on this week and will be sidelined for about eight weeks."
The news will be a big blow for United, who are 1.002 to win the Premier League title this season, as they are already without defensive duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones due to respective injury problems.
Ferguson is no doubt planning to give some of his youngsters a run-out in the Capital One Cup tie with Newcastle on Wednesday so Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans will again be the central defensive partnership in Saturday's Premier League visit of Tottenham. United are 1.53 to win, Spurs can be backed at 6.00 and the draw is 4.20.
