Sunderland midfield ace Kieran Richardson wants to leave the club according to manager Martin O'Neill.
Kieran Richardson is set to leave the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats boss would love to hold onto the versatile performer but is admitting defeat in his bid to hold onto the player.
Richardson was outstanding as the Black Cats held Arsenal to a draw at the Emirates on Saturday but threw his shirt into the crowd after the final whistle.
He only has 12 months remaining on his contract, and may well be on his way to a fresh club before the August 31 deadline.
Sunderland are yet to receive an offer for the player despite him being linked throughout the summer to London trio West Ham, QPR and Arsenal.
O'Neill has now publicly admitted Richardson wants to leave saying: "Kieran came to see me in the transfer window and for family issues and what have you, he thought maybe a change would suit him.
"It's been ongoing but no-one has come in and made an offer. Naturally, if he plays like that I'd like to keep him. On Saturday I thought he was splendid for us."
Sunderland are in action on Saturday against Reading and are 1.90 to win, 3.40 to draw and 10.00 to lose to the Royals at the Stadium of Light.
