Allardyce hails maturing Carroll

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has declared that Andy Carroll is a totally different character to the youngster he knew when managing Newcastle United.
Carroll has found more than his share of trouble during his career but Allardyce says the England striker has put all that behind him.

He said: "Andy is a totally different character to the lad I knew back then and is only interested in football - that is now his entire focus. He wants to play and he wants to play first-team football.
"He's growing up and I can see the difference. He is devoted to the game wants to play regularly and represent his country."
Discussing Carroll's arrival at the club, Allardyce added: "The co-owner David Sullivan acted very quickly when it became clear he was available and did extraordinarily well. It was a real coup for a newly-promoted club to sign such a player."
Speaking of his relationship with the West Ham owners, Allardyce concluded: "It's very good. We don't always agree with each other and have our moments, but the next day we wake up and just get on with it again."
The Hammers are 1213.00 to be relegated this season, while Carroll, who is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury, is 1213.00 to be the Premier League's top goalscorer.
